Stem Cell Therapy and Treatment Resistant Liver Cancer

Published 2024-07-10

Researchers from the University of California, San Diego postulate that Stem Cell derived Natural Killer Cells (NK Cells) may have the ability to successfully treat solid hepatocellular carcinoma. This intervention may be more successful than CAR-T therapy, which has shown limited efficacy for this pathology. The research team generated NK cells with a deleted Tranforming Growth Factor-beta gene which would impair hepatic function. In a subsequent in-vitro study, this type of NK cell was able to successfully target and inhibit cancer cells. The study was published in the journal Cell Stem Cell
