Potential Benefit for Spinal Cord Injury Recovery Using Bone Marrow Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells

According to a recent study published in the journal Clinical Neurology and Neurosurgery co-authored by scientists from Yale University and Sapporo University in Japan, clinically significant recovery from Spinal Cord Injury was achieved utilizing autologous Stem Cells. The authors utilized autologous, culture-expanded, bone marrow-derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells via a single intravenous infusion in 13 patients with recent non-penetrating Spinal Cord Injuries. The authors reported statistically significant improvements in a subset of patients, including motor improvements.
